A one-time member of the NC State Wolfpack jumped to his Facebook account to slam NFL quarterback Russell Wilson over claims the QB made about his treatment on the school’s football team back in 2011.
Wilson made his claims during a commencement address given to the graduates of the University of Wisconsin last weekend. The diminutive passer claimed that NC coach Tom O’Brien told him he would never be an NFL player because he is too small for the game.
The Seattle Seahawks QB said he learned of this stark opinion when he asked coach O’Bien if he could rejoin the NC State football team for his senior year after having played some minor league baseball. The coach, Wilson insisted, wasn’t too keen on the idea.
“He said, ‘Listen son, you’re never going to play in the National Football League. You’re too small. There’s no chance. You’ve got no shot. Give it up,” Wilson said of a conversation he claims he had with coach O’Brien.
O’Brien’s admonishment, Wilson said, made him jump from NC State to Wisconsin and the rest, as they say, is history.
But after the story of Wilson’s comments made the news following his speech at Wisconsin, former teammate Kalani Heppe blasted the claims on Facebook.
Heppe said Wilson’s claims “didn’t happen” and blasted the now famous QB as a “me” only player.
The former Wolfpacker soon deleted the remarks, but others saved the comments for prosterity.
Heppe was blunt, to say the least.
I think it is pretty well known how much I despise Tom O’Brien on a molecular level … However … Getting rid of Russell Wilson was the one admirable thing he did during his tenure at state. 80% of the shit Russell said in his speech didn’t even happen, it was really hard for Russell to field punts and play safety when his head was firmly lodged up all the offensive coaches ass on a daily basis. Russell was a great player, but he was a “me” player, unable to put the team before himself and his “illustrious” baseball career. Fuck Russell. is real State people still have Phillip Rivers to claim.
The incident brought SB Nation to remind its readers that some of Wilson’s past claims about his baseball career have been a bit stretched.
Whatever the truth is, Wilson posted several tweets in an attempt to defuse Heppe’s criticism and get past the controversy.
