The Times of Israel reports: Israeli ice skater Daniel Samohin won first place in the World Junior Skating Championship, held in Debrecen, Hungary, on Friday.

Samohin, 17, received an overall score of 236.65 points, beating silver medalist Canadian Nicolas Nadeau, who scored 224.76 for second place.

Another Israeli Mark Gorodnitsky, did not make the finals, reaching 34th place with 45.28 points.

Samohin has been competing since 2014 and won first place in the Philadelphia Summer International tournament in 2015. Later that year he took gold at the US International Figure Skating Classic in Salt Lake City, Utah.
