Florida Panther forward Jaromir Jagr, 44, passed legendary Gordie Howe for third on the all time points list with his 1,851 point.
He gained the point when he assisted on Aleksander Barkov’s 20th goal of the season in a 5-4 loss to the Boston Bruins.
Jagr only needs 36 points to move past Mark Messier for second place.
“It’s more for you guys [in the media],” he commented after the game. “It’s behind me now. Let’s concentrate on wins.”
Howe hit 1,850 points in 1,767 games while it Jagr only took 1,613 games to reach 1,851. He spent three seasons in the KHL from 2008 – 2011.
He passed Brett Hull for third place on the all time goal list in February. With 743, he needs only 58 more to beat Howe and 151 to dethrone Gretzky. Jagr turned 44 in February, which makes passing Howe unlikely and passing Gretzky a longshot.
