Consensus #1 recruit Rashan Gary picked Michigan on National Signing Day.
The 6’5,” 293-pound defensive tackle gives Jim Harbaugh a stout presence on the line that should make an immediate impact for the Wolverines. Gary made 55 tackles, complied 13.5 sacks, and forced four fumbles for New Jersey’s Parasmus Catholic this past season. Scouts hail the big man’s outstanding athleticism and see few holes in his game.
“God sent me a signal,” Gary explained. “I picked Michigan because, you know, that’s a place where I felt comfortable. That’s a place where my family felt comfortable. That’s a place where I felt the academic support is great and the degree holds a lot of weight.”
The choice comes as no surprise. Gary had appeared wearing a Michigan sweatshirt and looked likely to head west for college. But Alabama, Clemson, and Auburn also appeared in the running for his services.
Breitbart Sports, like most outlets, ranked him as the best in the class of 2020.
“Definitely the nation’s best player, Gary has tremendous size, carries his weight well, and moves with exceptional grace and power,” assessed Cole Muzio. “He not only has the physical dominance to compete right away, but the skill to regularly set up camp in the opponent’s backfield. In the fourth year of compiling these rankings, Gary is far and away the best DT I have evaluated.”
