Keenan Reynolds ended his college football career at the Naval Academy with a memorable land assault.
Reynolds rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another in a 44-28 victory over Pitt at the Military Bowl. The win pushed the Midshipmen to an 11-2 season. It propelled the team’s charismatic quarterback into the record books.
Reynolds scored his 88th collegiate touchdown in the game, which gave him sole possession of the FBS TD record. He also holds the FBS record for points scored. His 144 yards rushing put him at 4,559 ground yards for his career. That’s also good for an FBS record—rushing yards for a quarterback.
The field general becomes an ensign after graduation. He may never play a down in the National Football League after serving the United States Navy in information warfare. But the fifth-leading vote-getter in Heisman Trophy balloting figures a hard one to erase from fan memories—and the record books.
But, according to Reynolds, the individual milestones fall short of a team record attained Monday by the Midshipmen. Navy won 11 games for the first time in the school’s long history on the gridiron.
“You play the game to win,” Reynolds reflected. “So, the record for wins is the one that means the most to me.”
