Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert’s fiancée announced via Instagram that he helped her deliver their child, Junie, in a bathroom on Wednesday.

The player’s fiancée, musician Teyana Taylor, was due to give birth next month, but the blessed event came just before 7 a.m. at the couple’s home.

“On Dec 16th at 6:42am in our bathroom Junie decided she wanted to take her first breath into this world,” Taylor wrote on her Instagram account. The first photo of the baby as she lay on Shumpert’s chest accompanied the note.

The new mother explained that she was unaware that she was on the verge of giving birth until she felt the baby’s head crowning. Taylor wrote that Shumpert jumped into action and even that he used the cord of a pair of headphones to tie off the umbilical cord as the couple awaited the arrival of an ambulance.

According to the post, Taylor’s labor was quite quick and quite unexpected. The baby arrived about three weeks early. Earlier this year Shumpert told fans that the birth date was expected to be January 16 of 2016.

The couple became engaged in November on the night of Taylor’s baby shower.

On Dec 16th at 6:42am in our bathroom Junie decided she wanted to take her first breath into this world. She came out as a wonderful surprise to everyone! Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head…it took two ten count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr and she entered this world into his bare hands! Eyes full of tears and barely able to speak to the emergency operator @imanshumpert tied a pair of red headphones around the umbilical cord and the ambulance made there grand entrance 5 min later. She opened her eyes right away, gazed into mine and never cried! He handed her to me wrapped in our bath towel and wiped her face for me to see what LOVE really is. She has blown Christmas away! Our family is complete. Her blueprint will be unmatched. Welcome Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. Mommy carried you. Daddy delivered you. #MeetTheParents we love you baby girl

Shumpert’s status with the Cavs seems to be questionable after he suffered a strain in his groin during a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder last week. The fourth-year player made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2012 and in college earned all-ACC, second team, accolades. Scout.com ranked the player 15th in the nation when he attending Chicago’s Oak Park and River Forest High School.
