In July, Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker called Donald Trump his “front runner” for president. Now, the former All-Pro running back makes more headlines with his latest political prediction.
“We have to do what’s right to save America. I guarantee you Donald [Trump] would do better than a lot of people in office now,” Walker said according to TMZ. “That I can tell you for a fact.”
Walker’s comments come just days after Donald Trump caused another media firestorm with his announced support for temporarily halting immigration of Muslims from terror hotbeds.
“Look, we can’t build a wall and not let people in the country,” the Heisman Trophy-winner and former Celebrity Apprentice star added. “But we do have to get this country safe. We have to quit being politically correct.”
Apart from the stint on reality television, Walker worked for Trump on his USFL team, the New Jersey Generals. The former Georgia Bulldog rushed for 2,411 yards for the Generals in 1985, which remains a single-season record for professional football.
Walker is one of a number of black athletes to publicly announce support for Donald Trump. NBA Hall of Fame forward Dennis Rodman and former NFL receiver Terrell Owens both backed Trump last July. Mike Tyson essentially endorsed the man who helped promote his bout with Michael Spinks. “Anybody that was ever president of the United States offended some group of people or some groups of people were offended,” Tyson recently said of Trump.
Last week, the Republican presidential frontrunner released a plan to win “100 percent” of the black vote. Donald Trump recently cleared 40 percent support in the latest Monmouth University poll.
