ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — A person familiar with the decision says the Detroit Lions have fired president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew.
The person spoke with The Associated Press on Thursday on the condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the moves. ESPN first reported the firings.
Lewand was in his 20th season with the Lions, and his sixth as president. Mayhew became the team’s general manager early in the 2008 season when the team fired Matt Millen.
Both executives took the fall for a franchise that is struggling after having relative success in recent years.
Detroit is an NFC-worst 1-7 this season and has a bye this week.
