After months of bad blood between Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees, the team is finally making plans to celebrate his 3,000 hit.
The Yankees announced on Friday that the team would hold a pre-game ceremony on September 13 to celebrate the momentous hit even though the event happened on June 19.
This is a far cry from how the team treated his 660th home run on May 1, a hit that tied Willie Mays’ record. The team pretty much just ignored the milestone and never mentioned it in game notes.
The team spent months fighting against the $6 million in bonuses it was supposed to pay A-Rod. Finally, by July 3 the two sides had announced that they had “amicably resolved their potential dispute.” After those months of arguing, the team decided to donate $3.5 million to several charities.
The team also agreed to donate the remaining $2.5 million to the MLB Urban Youth Foundation.
After starting strong, A-Rod hasn’t been having a great season of late, hitting .146 with no homers in August. Still, Rodriguez made quite a splash for his 40th birthday at the end of July hitting homer number 678.
