If it wasn’t humiliating enough that Tiger Woods shot another round in the 80s, finishing 153rd in a field of 156 on Thursday, the golfer lost at the U.S. Open to a 15-year-old boy.
Amateur Cole Hammer, who friends like to call “Hammer Time,” shot a seven over par 77 to Tiger’s 10-over round of 80. Woods and Hammer had fairly similar rounds noted Golf.com, both hitting nine of 18 greens. Hammer qualified for the Open by winning a sectional in Texas.
The son of golf enthusiasts Gregg and Allison, who each have multiple club championships at River Oaks Country Club near their Houston home, Cole began smacking golf balls at the age of two. He is the third-youngest to ever play in this tournament’s 115-year history. The Tiger slayer stands 5’9” tall and weighs in at an intimidating 125 pounds.
Tiger’s 80 marks the the highest score of his career in a U.S. Open and the second highest in any major. It’s his third round in the eighties this year alone.
The world’s 195th ranked golfer shot the worst round of his career, 85, at the Memorial two weeks ago, which was three shots worse than the 82 he carded in the second round of the Phoenix Open in January.
Tiger took two months off after missing the cut at the Phoenix to work on his game and get it back to tournament ready. Looks like two months wasn’t quite enough.
