For the first time in history a husband and a wife, while playing golf together, teeing it up on the same hole, playing as a twosome, shot consecutive holes in one.
Odds makers consider the chances of this occurrence almost incalculable. The National Hole-in-One Association makes a stab at it, rendering it at about 52,000,000 to 1.
Whatever the chances, don’t expect it to happen again too soon
Sunday Tony and Janet Blundy headed off to their friendly, but competitive round of golf. Playing the Ledge Meadows golf course in Grand Ledge, Oregon, Tony knocked a seven-iron in from 135 yards for his first hole-in-one, which occurred on the 16th hole.
Warning Tony to watch out because, “You’re gonna be really mad at me when I put mine in,” Janet proceeded to the ladies tee, only to hit a 110-yard pitching wedge that bounced in front of the green and found its way into the bottom of the cup.
The golfers on the next tee witnessed the mind-boggling event and verified the rare achievement.
“If nobody would have been around, nobody would ever believe us,” Tony shared. “We’ve been laughing about it every time we think about it. It’s so unbelievable that it could happen.”
The Lansing State Journal reported that, according to the to National Hole-in-One Association, ‘The odds of an amateur golfer getting a hole-in-one are 12,500-to-1. For two amateurs each making one in the same round as a foursome, the odds climb to 1.3 million-to-1. For two members of a foursome to ace the same hole in the same round, they skyrocket to 26 million-to-1.”
A claims adjuster for the National Hole-in-One Association said Wednesday that a twosome on consecutive shots would double the odds of it happening in a foursome. Given that the twosome happens to be married to each other….well, let’s not even go there.
Hopefully the couple had hole-in-one insurance because it is customary that everyone in the bar gets a drink at the expense of the day’s hero or heroine. On Sunday, it was a double round for every one.
“It’s surreal. I keep expecting to wake up and it’s a dream,” Janet said. “If I do, I’m gonna be mad.”
