Friday Tiger Woods announced on his twitter account that he will tee it up for the upcoming Players Championship to be held at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, next week.
The golf legend won the tournament in 2013, but overall Tiger has struggled at the Players. In his 16 appearances Woods has only three other top ten finishes.
The recent top-twenty performance at the Masters tournament earlier in the month shows there’s still a lot of game left in Tiger. Although his driver play was inconsistent, Woods for the most part skillfully negotiated Augusta National, demonstrating superb short game acumen reminiscent of the Tiger of old.
Since the Masters, Tiger most likely worked with swing coach Chris Como on improving his driver accuracy. If they made progress like he did recently with his short game, the current world’s #106 golfer could become a force to be reckoned with once more.
Tiger also will be playing at Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament at Muirfield, which begins the first week of June. He has had considerable good fortune at the Memorial, having won it five times.
Overall that will give Woods only five starts in 20115 before the US Open on June 18 at Chambers Bay in Washington state, where he will seek his fifteenth Major championship.
