The Detroit Lions lent the Buffalo Bills Ford Field. The Bills gave the Lions chicken wings and pizza.

The real gift came via Buffalo’s Sunday upset of the Green Bay Packers. The home dogs defeated the NFC North’s co-leaders to put the Detroit Lions in sole possession of first place. Like so many holiday-season presents, the Lions didn’t expect that one.

The Bills trekked to the other end of Lake Erie for a Sunday game rescheduled for Monday night when a snowstorm walloped Buffalo in late November. Mother Nature dropped seven feet of snow on some locales in the Buffalo area. The Bills dropped 38 points on the Jets.

Whereas Detroit controls its own destiny to enter the postseason, the 8-6 Bills, again, look for some help. They finish the regular season on the road against Oakland and New England and hope for losses among teams in the bunched up AFC North and that the winner of Chiefs-Chargers in Week 17 loses its Week 16 game.
