Michael Sam, hectored by TMZ’s cell-phone video paparazzi, says he doesn’t believe his place on the couch instead of the field speaks of his football abilities.
The pass rusher cut by the St. Louis Rams and the Dallas Cowboys, noting his SEC Defensive Player of the Year award, tells TMZ of his status as an NFL onlooker rather than participant, “I don’t think it had to do with talent.”
Sam compiled three preseason sacks, including two of former Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, and four hurries. But he couldn’t crack the talent-rich defensive front of the St. Louis Rams or find a place on the weaker Dallas Cowboys defense.
More interested in checking his phone after a flight, a distracted Sam informed the pestering paparazzi that he “absolutely” wants to pursue his NFL dreams. “I’m curious myself” what happens next, he confesses.
Sam dismissed the idea of working with Oprah Winfrey on a reality-television show or pursuing a career in Hollywood. “I’m a football player,” Sam insisted. “I’m a football player.”
