The Baltimore Orioles declined the option on Nick Markakis’s contract. The Atlanta Braves decided to offer the outfielder a deal.
The Braves signed the two-time Gold Glove-winner to a four-year deal north of $40 million.
Markakis hit 14 home runs and drove in 50 runners last season. He posted a .276 average. Though his 2014 offensive numbers don’t impress much, Markakis boasts downright gaudy defensive statistics. He committed zero errors in 149 games last season.
The 31-year-old has played his entire nine-year career with the Baltimore Orioles.
