On Saturday at Michigan’s “Big House,” a friendly soccer match between two of the world’s most storied franchises–England’s Manchester United and Spain’s Real Madrid–drew 109, 318 fans, which was a U.S. record.
According to Yahoo Sports, “the previous record of 101,799 was set by the 1984 Olympic gold-medal match between France and Brazil at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.” Tickets reportedly ranged “from $45 to $189.”
Manchester United won 3-1 and the friendly showed there are plenty of fans in the Midwest willing to watch great soccer.
