As Germany was demolishing and humiliating Brazil 5-0 in the first half of a World Cup Semifinal battle on Tuesday, some Brazilian fans showed their anger by burning Brazilian flags.

Soccer is like a religion to Brazilians, and they are not used to losing international matches at home.

Brazil’s 7-1 loss was the Brazilian team’s first loss on home soil since 1975. Brazil was without Neymar, the face of the team, and its best defender Thiago Silva, who got a foolish yellow card in the quarterfinals. That was his second before the semifinals, which earned him a one-game suspension.

Germany will play the winner of Wednesday’s Argentina-Netherlands semifinal for the World Cup title on Sunday.

The third-place game is on Saturday, and Brazil will play the loser of the Argentina-Netherlands game.
