The very week that the new owners of the Milwaukee Bucks hired Jason Kidd as a coach before informing Larry Drew that he had been fired, the Houston Rockets have descended the NBA disrespect to a new level.
The team depicted free agent Carmelo Anthony wearing a #7 Rockets jersey in an entranceway window at the Toyota Center. The problem? Jeremy Lin, a player under contract for the Rockets, currently wears that number. Lin offered a clever response to the controversy:
The awkward situation likely plays as a deja vu for the player currently under contract with Houston. Lin’s departure from the Knicks, many sensed, stemmed from Anthony’s displeasure with the “Linsanity” surrounding the Harvard graduate during his electric 2011-2012 run. The charismatic point guard likely will receive his walking papers, hopefully along with an apology, regardless of whether Houston lands Anthony or not.
