On Thursday, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama threw an Obamacare party at the White House for athletes and celebrities who helped the administration push the law.
According to Time, the “Obamas cracked open the champagne” for about 300 people and some of the attendees included:
labor leaders, Democratic operatives and health care activists, as well as celebrities who helped the Administration promote the law, including University of North Carolina men’s basketball coach Roy Williams, former NFL player Eddie George, Friday Night Lights and Nashville star Connie Britton, University of Connecticut women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma, and actor and former White House official Kal Penn.
Obama also reportedly praised the “tech team.” The White House and the Obama administration has done multiple victory laps even though nearly a fifth of the those enrolled in Obamacare have not paid their premiums and do not have health insurance. In addition, millions of other Americans who did not get waivers or delays have seen their lives disrupted, been forced to change their healthcare plans and doctors, seen their premiums skyrocket, and been faced with more uncertainty because of a president who often changes the law on a whim with various executive actions.
