ESPN’s come a long way from slo-pitch softball, bowling, and kickboxing. The network will, for the first time in its 35-year-history, air an NFL playoff game in early 2015.
“We’re thrilled to televise our first wild-card playoff game and we thank the NFL for the opportunity,” ESPN president John Skipper announced. “This game will be among the highest-rated programs of the year on cable and it is compelling content that will help us better serve football fans during the postseason.”
The network’s Monday Night Football team of John Gruden and Mike Tirico will call the wildcard game as well as the Pro Bowl. The wildcard game comes as part of ESPN’s new eight-year extension with the league.
