President Barack Obama’s selfie on Tuesday with Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was part of a Samsung promotion just like Ellen’s “selfie” at the Oscars that became the most re-tweeted photo in history.
Soon after Ortiz snapped the selfie with Obama, Samsung’s Twitter account re-tweeted it to its 5.2 million followers. It then tweeted, “This photo was taken with a #GalaxyNote3.” Obama may not have known, but he was a part of Ortiz’s and Samsung’s marketing ploy.
Sports Business Journal first reported that Ortiz had signed an endorsement deal with Samsung and the Boston Globe reported on Tuesday that the company did indeed plan with Ortiz to capture the selfie with Obama.
