Jason Collins divulged to the New York Daily News Thursday that he endured taunts from one on-court opponent since revealing his homosexuality. Collins refused to reveal the “knucklehead” responsible for the verbal prods.
“One player, one knucklehead from another team,” Collins told the Daily News. “He’s a knucklehead. So I just let it go. Again, that goes back to controlling what you can control. That’s how I conduct myself just being professional.”
Collins stressed the overall positivity of his recent stint in the league. “This was the only incident,” Collins told ESPNNewYork.com. “I don’t know how many players and coaches that I’ve faced. It’s been over 100, I would say.”
Collins has averaged .5 points and .7 rebounds per game since his he signed with the Brooklyn Nets. Though Collins has struggled to post impressive individual numbers, the Nets have surged–boasting a 10-3 record–since he joined the team. Brooklyn host the Boston Celtics tonight.
