The Pontiac Silverdome, which served as the home of the Detroit Lions from 1975-2001, is auctioning the urinals for die-hard fans that don’t mind that they have been used before by hundreds of thousands of fans over 27 NFL seasons.
Also for auction are things like seats and signs and the scoreboard. The seats are priced at $100 for a single stadium seat to $465 for a row of four adjoining seats. Triple Investment Group, which bought the stadium for $583,000 in 2009, says the sales will be held through RJM Auctioneers from May 12-16, although seats are available for presale now.
“We felt it was important that some of the artifacts and items that are no longer required be made available now to Silverdome fans here in Detroit and around North America,” said a spokesman for the Dome’s current owner. The Silverdome has been used only sporadically since the Lions moved to Ford Field in 2002.
What’s next for the Silverdome site is unclear. Triple Investments continues to assess the status of the building to determine its viability as a venue for sports and entertainment. The spokesman added, “We are continuing to investigate all potential revenue options for the site.”
