Billionaire Warren Buffett said in a recent interview that he dreamed of buying the Washington Redskins when he was a kid when he was a water boy for the team.
“You know, when I was a kid, I thought if I ever made a lot of money, I would go out and buy a team,” Buffett said on Dan Patrick’s radio show last week. “I was a water boy for the Washington Redskins for two games – I lived in Washington at the time – and I thought if I ever had a lot of money I’d buy the Washington Redskins.”
Patrick said Redskins fans would probably love for Buffett to buy the franchise.
“I think Dan Snyder … I don’t know whether he would sell,” Buffett said, according to the Washington Post. “But Sammy Baugh was my hero in those days. That’s a little before your time. But it was the dream of every kid to have a sports team; well, it was the dream of every kid to be a sports star. But of course I never had a chance of that.”
Buffett said that he viewed professional sports franchise “kind of like art” because “they go up in value because there’s just a lot of rich people that want to own one, and there’s more rich people than there are teams.”
“So they compete for ’em. Some of them don’t make much money, as you know, but if you’ve got a lot of money, what are you gonna do with it?” Buffett said. “Some people buy art, some people buy houses, some people buy boats. I invest, but I’m different.”
