Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning may have to consider retirement if he fails a physical exam for his surgically-repaired neck in March that is mandated by his contract.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, “Manning will determine his future beyond this season based on the results of an offseason exam on his surgically repaired neck.” And “if the exam reveals that his neck is stable, Manning plans to return to the Broncos in 2014, regardless of how Denver fares this postseason.” But “if there is an increased risk of injury, Manning will be forced to decide whether to retire,” according to Mortensen’s sources.
Last week, Manning said that “the light is at the end of the tunnel for me, no question” in comments that fueled speculation about his future.
Manning recently detailed what he had to overcome, particularly with nerve damage, when his neck had to be surgically repaired three years ago.
