The Carolina Panthers topped the St. Louis Rams in a match-up between two NFC teams who are trying to get things going in a positive direction for their respective seasons. Only two Cam Newton passes hit the ground, as he went 15 of 17 for 204 yards for a 30-15 win.
Coming into Charlotte this weekend, St. Louis was on a two-game tear, beating the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans.
The Panthers were coming back home after a win in Minnesota against the Vikings.
The game was filled with personal fouls, scuffles, and defensive points. Captain Munnerlyn was the one who grabbed Bradford’s first path attempt and returned the ball for a 45-yard touchdown after Bradford’s arm was hit.
The next points came when the Panthers forced a turnover on downs for the Rams, giving them the ball on the one-yard line. The Panthers attempted to run the ball out with Mike Tolbert but he was brought down behind the line, resulting in a safety.
For the Rams, the most important thing coming out of this game may be the loss of their quarterback Sam Bradford who left the game with what appeared to be a knee injury. Bradford threw for 255 yards in the game with one interception and one touchdown pass to Zac Stacy.
The Panthers are likely excited to see their offense putting points on the board, putting up 30 points today and 75 points over the last two weeks. Third-year quarterback Newton threw for 204 yards for the day with one touchdown to Steve Smith.
Next week, the Rams will host the 6-1 Seattle Seahawks for an NFC West showdown on Monday night. Thursday night, The Panthers will have their NFC South opener as they go into Tampa Bay to face the 0-6 Buccaneers who are coming off a loss to the 2-4 Atlanta Falcons.
