Grambling Football in Disarray After Firing of Doug Williams

The midseason firing of former Super Bowl winning quarterback Doug Williams has not been well received by the players of Grambling State.

After several instances of voicing concerns, the entire team walked out of a meeting called by the school’s president. However, the walk out of Wednesday’s meeting was not the end of the protest.

The entire team refused to show up for practice that afternoon.

Williams, whose son D.J. was a quarterback on the team, was apparently popular with the players who are also upset about long bus rides and the poor condition of the facilities. “Things are rough, and we understand our players’ frustration,” Grambling spokesman Will Sutton reportedly said. “The president is frustrated, the AD is frustrated, the students are frustrated, the alumni are frustrated, so we fully understand our players’ frustration.”

It is unknown at this time when the Grambling football team will return to practice. Williams, who played at Grambling, took the school to a SWAC championship in 2011 but had lost his last 17 games.
