The Giants and Dodgers started the last game of the night on time Thursday, just 21 hours after a nearby stabbing in a dispute between rival fans left one man dead. Tim Lincecum struck out Yasiel Puig to start the game but Carl Crawford tripled and scored later in the top of the first inning in a game that means little to San Francisco fans more focused on the 49ers Thursday night road game at St. Louis.
The Dodgers have clinched the NL West, and the only possible significance would be if the Cardinals or Braves lost the rest of their games to give the Dodgers a chance of home field advantage for a playoff series.
The main attraction for Giants fans is the possibility that this could be the last start as a Giant for Lincecum, who has been dominant for most of his tenure in San Francisco but has always concerned fans with his awkward delivery.
