Canelo Alvarez can at least tell his children he joined Oscar De La Hoya as the only fighters to ever cause a single judge to think Floyd Mayweather did not beat him – and in both cases the one judge seemed to be the only one watching the fight who even thought it was close. It may be that no athlete deserves to earn $350 million, but if anyone does it is Mayweather for his dominant 45-0 record.
The AP and other unofficial judges scored the fight as a dominant Mayweather win – 119-109 in AP’s case. Two official scorers had it closer but left no doubt at 117-111 and 116-112, but the shocker was a 114-114 card.
It sounds like Alvarez agred with the rest of the world that Mayweather dominated for the 45th straight time in the ring. He told the AP:
“No doubt he’s a great fighter, a very intelligent fighter. There was no solution for him.”
