CLEVELAND, OH – Conservative activist and Chairman of the 60 Plus Association, Jim Martin, as well as his association’s celebrity spokesman, Pat Boone, will be suiting up for the Virginia Creepers Sunday as the team pursues a title in the 75-79 division at the National Senior Games.
Martin and Boone, outspoken activists against Obamacare, the “death tax,” and other “senior issues” from a conservative perspective, hope that their participation in the Senior Games brings attention to their organization as a counter to the far more liberal AARP organization.
“I am proud to participate in these games and show support for seniors who are taking an active interest in maintaining their health and fitness,” said Martin. “My hope is that, in addition to success on the basketball court, we can create positive buzz for our organization, which is dedicated to providing real solutions that actually help seniors as opposed to advocating a leftist political agenda that hurts seniors and their posterity.”
The “Creepers” enter the tournament as among the favorites to win it all. Their title hopes will largely rest on the shoulders of the sharpshooting Martin, whose ability to drain long-range set shots have given him a substantial reputation among regular participants.
“We have a real shot to win this, and we take this competition very seriously,” added Martin.
Coached by Del Wilson, the Creepers also have a 79-year-old competitor in the pole-vault as well as two participants in the tennis competition on their team.
Their first game as part of the seeding rounds will be played Sunday at noon at Cleveland State University. Pat Boone’s participation will be limited to the first two games, both played Sunday; however, he promises to trade in his famous white buck shoes for white sneakers at half-court to make a strong statement for senior fitness.
“I think it is important that seniors continue stay active and keep in shape,” said Boone, the legendary actor and singer. “I hope our team can be a positive example for others.”
The 60 Plus Association is a strong voice for conservative solutions for seniors and active in supporting candidates who share those views. Among their goals is to abolish the death tax by 2017, and they hope to assist Ken Cuccinelli in his bid to become Virginia’s governor this year.
