San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tarell Brown learned this week via twitter he is getting a $2 million pay cut to less than $1 million a year, despite intercepting two passes in the playoffs and forcing a fumble in the Super Bowl. He then promptly fired his agent, Brian Overstreet, who did not inform him he had to work out at 49ers camp in Santa Clara instead of at home in Texas to receive the $2 million as part of his contract.
“…49ers CB Tarell Brown voids $2M base salary escalator after skipping workout program,” Brian McIntyre tweeted on July 25 at 5:01 a.m. according to an ABC report.
After reading the tweet, Brown fired his agent Brian Overstreet for repeatedly assuring him he would not be penalized for missing the workouts.
The defending NFC champions will now pay Brown just $925,000 for the upcoming season, leaving them an extra $2 million in cap space as they enter the 2013 season as co-Super Bowl favorites along with the Denver Broncos.
