South Carolina Clears Clowney of Wrongdoing: No 'Impermissible Benefits' Received

On Thursday, South Carolina cleared Jadeveon Clowney of wrongdoing after the university investigated the superstar after finding out he had talked with Jay Z, who is now a sports agent.

There are no NCAA rules against players having a conversation with agents, and South Carolina determined Clowney neither received “impermissible benefits” from nor had “impermissible conversation” with the rapper.

Ever since rapper and noted Obama supporter Jay Z attempted to enter the field of sports representation, controversy has surrounded his every action.

The most recent allegations of impropriety come from reports linking him to talented South Carolina Gamecock defensive end Clowney. A dominant pass rusher, Clowney is considered one of the best draft prospects in ages, and the university is now investigating the alleged contact, which, as an amateur, could make him ineligible.

When asked about the situation, head coach Steve Spurrier said:

All of our conversations (with Clowney) are ‘Wait until you have playedyour last game at South Carolina. When the bowl gameis over this coming season, he’s free to accept any amount of moneyanybody wants to give him. But until then he has to be a student-athletelike all the other guys or he’s not going to be eligible. He’s done agood job of knowing that.

Many had suggested that Clowney would be best served by foregoing his junior season and simply waiting to enter the NFL. Had he been eligible for April’s draft, most believe he would have been selected with the first overall draft pick.
