Jerry Jones: NFL 'Closer than Ever' to L.A. Return

There is perhaps no more bizarre situation as far as sports franchise locations than the lack of an NFL team in Los Angeles. Jerry Jones, one of the league’s most visible owners, believes that is about to change.

When asked about the prospects of a franchise coming to one of the nation’s most significant markets, the Cowboys’ owner said:

“Closer than ever — ever being since they left, which has been a longtime much to my surprise and anticipation. There are someviable ways for a team or teams to be in Los Angeles. We’ve got somevery talented and very qualified people that want to be a part of itthat are not a part of the league right now. We, obviously, have peoplewithin the league that want this very much.”

While the logistics involved are still significant and Commissioner Roger Goodell has been adamant that the city will only get a team via relocation, the fact that Jones and others remain confident is telling.

Most believe that the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, and St. Louis Rams are the most likely teams to make such a move. The Raiders and the Rams previously played in Los Angeles before moving to their current locations in 1994.
