Although many may have missed it, the Celebrity Softball game leading up to the All-Star festivities contained what is likely to be one of the mid-season event’s best stories.

Wounded Warrior, Josh Wege, who lost the lower half of both of his legs in Afghanistan, was named co-MVP of the contest. Playing for the National League team, Wege was one of three members of his team to hit a home run of American League pitcher Frank Thomas, a former White Sox legend.

Wege plays regularly for the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball team, which is scheduled to play 100 games this year. He shared MVP honors with comedian/actor Kevin James, who remains relatively athletic despite making a career off of joking about his heft.

Former USA softball pitcher Jennie Finch was credited with the victory in the 8-5 win. Other notable names participating included singer Ashanti, comedian/actor George Lopez, actor Chord Overstreet, actress Alyssa Milano, Miss America Mallory Hagan, and former MLB stars Mike Piazza, Ricky Henderson, Daryl Strawberry, Rollie Fingers, and Andre Dawson.
