New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz apologized in a series of tweets on Sunday after having tweeted on Saturday that he was “thoroughly confused” by the George Zimmerman verdict. He tweeted, “Zimmerman doesn’t last a year before the hood catches up to him.”
Zimmerman was found not guilty of all charges on Saturday, and Cruz immediately deleted the tweet, which Breitbart Sports captured.
Cruz said his tweets were a reflection of his “initial interpretation of the reaction I was reading on twitter. I immediately realized my tweet was a mistake.”
“I apologize,” Cruz tweeted. He said he has never advocated violence and never will. Cruz concluded by tweeting that he is praying for Trayvon Martin’s family.
