Kevin Garnett is an aging veteran on a team with no hopes for contention, and the Brooklyn Nets are in desperate need for a tenacious presence capable of elevating them to a team with the ability to compete with the Heat.
Sounds like a great match.
With a no-trade clause and a willingness to consider retirement, however, Garnett appears able and determined to set his own destiny. Nevertheless, the trade makes sense, and the forward, who averaged 14.8 ppg and 7.8rpg last season for the Celtics, could be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Jason Kidd coached Nets.
The Nets are holding out their frequently offered trade-bait, guard Marshon Brooks, as compensation for a Boston squad that could desperately use a youth infusion.
It is unclear what Garnett will do as there are plenty of teams likely to pursue the future Hall-of-Famer even as he holds all the cards to determine his fate.
