Friendship Baptist Church is standing in the way of the proposed new Atlanta Falcons stadium. The church is one of two that are “in the way” of where the team plans to put the stadium.
An original offer of $13.5 million was rejected by the church, and they have informed the city of Atlanta that it will take $24.5 million for them to move.
The city offered $15.5 million, and mayor Kasim Reed has said that he is confident the church will move and that a deal can be reached in the next two to three weeks.
With the current plan, the new stadium will be built on the south side of the Georgia Dome; however, Falcons owner Arthur Blank has said that if the churches hold their ground, they will not be forced to move. Instead, the stadium will be built on the north side.
