The Washington Nationals hit five solo home runs, including a game winner by Anthony Rendon with two outs in the top of the ninth, to defeat the Cleveland Indians 7-6 Saturday night. The game featured seven home runs, including two solo shots by Cleveland.
The Nationals jumped out to a 5-0 lead on Scott Kazmir, who lasted only 2 2/3 innings and surrendered three Washington home runs–to Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth, and Ian Desmond.
The Cleveland bullpen shut down the Nationals until the eighth however, giving the Indians offense time to come back. All five Indians runs came with two outs, with the Tribe taking the lead in the fifth, knocking out Jordan Zimmerman.
Zimmerman surrendered six runs in five innings.
The Nationals had some two-out magic of their own, however, in the late innings.
Chad Tracy hit a two-out, pinch hit home run in the 8th to tie the game.
Anthony Rendon then smacked a two-out home run to right to take the lead, one pitch after hitting a foul ball that appeared catchable but was dropped by the Indians, who committed three errors in the game.
Rafael Soriano pitched a scoreless ninth for his 18th save.
