At LSU, Chad Jones was feared. Quarterbacks feared his ball hawking skills, running backs and wide receivers feared his tackling ability, and opposing coaches feared scheming around him. Off the gridiron, he was feared by opposing hitters as his impressive pitching skills allowed him to dominate in another sport in the SEC: baseball.
Despite being drafted in the third round by the New York Giants in the 2010 NFL Draft, it is that “second sport” that is giving Jones another shot at professional athletics.
After a 2010 car accident where Jones shattered his fibula and tibia, the former LSU star was never able to return to form. He was cut by the Giants in May of 2012 after failing to pass a physical.
Last week, however, Jones began a return to professional sports when the Cincinnati Reds drafted him in the 9th round of the MLB Draft. This is the third time Jones has been drafted to play baseball.
