The #2 overall prospect heading into Thursday’s MLB Draft has tested positive for Adderall. Jonathan Gray, the pitching ace out of the University of Oklahoma, is still expected to be drafted highly.
Adderall is banned from the MLB without a prescription, something that Gray does not possess.
At 6’4″, 239 pounds, Gray was second in Division I with 138 strikeouts and currently holds a 1.59 ERA, as his team moves forward in college baseball’s postseason.
The Houston Astros are set to select first in the draft, which begins at 7 p.m. EDT Thursday night and will be followed by the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies. Gray could be selected anywhere in the top 5, assuming his stock is not affected. The positive test will not result in a suspension but will require him to go through additional testing once he is drafted.
