Jeff Van Gundy, the former coach of the Knicks and Rockets and current broadcaster, is reportedly in discussions to become the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.

Those discussions, which have not been confirmed or denied by either party, are said to be preliminary.

Van Gundy is one of the top available coaches, and the team desperately needs a stellar coach as they look to improve upon a disappointing first round defeat at the hand of a Derrick Rose-less Chicago Bulls. Expectations are high in Brooklyn, and Van Gundy would certainly be a solid choice to lead the team as it attempts to reach loftier heights.

Despite his extensive resume and strong credentials, many remember Van Gundy as as the tiny coach that was clinging to Alonzo Mourning’s leg for dear life in that classic brawl between the Heat and the Knicks in the NBA playoffs.
