Getting fired from the Cleveland Cavaliers could lead to bigger and better things for Byron Scott who spoke to the Los Angeles Clippers this week about their head coaching vacancy. The team recently fired Vinny Del Negro, who hinted that the move was prompted by guard Chris Paul.
Keeping Paul with the franchise will be priority number one for the team that had a disappointing first round exit in the NBA Playoffs. Scott, who took the New Jersey Nets to the Finals in back to back years in 2002 and 2003, coached Paul with the New Orleans Hornets.
Other contenders for the position include Jeff Van Gundy and Brian Shaw. Currently coaching with the Indiana Pacers, Shaw continues to be mentioned in coaching searches and is very well respected yet, for some reason, no team has decided to make the hire.
Scott is also a Los Angeles native. He went to high school in Inglewood, California and was an instrumental part of the Los Angeles’s “Showtime” years.
