Concern over the efforts of Jay-Z, the rapper, outspoken Obama supporter, and husband of Beyonce, and his efforts to develop a career as a sports agent seem to be prevalent among the major sports leagues. However, it is the NFLPA that is now investigating the musician and his Roc Nation sports agency.
Specifically, the NFLPA believes that he may have violated contact rules with regards to landing Geno Smith as a client. The Jets rookie fired his agents after being drafted lower than he had expected.
Roc Nation is poised for rapid growth as Jay-Z already has notable baseball clients, including Robinson Cano, signed Giants receiver Victor Cruz earlier this year, and has other athletes such as WNBA rookie Skylar Diggins on its client roster. There is no timeline for the conclusion of the investigation.
