Washington 5, Philadelphia 2
Jordan Zimmermann pitched seven innings, giving up two runs, and winning his eighth game as the Nationals opened their series with a 5-2 win over the Phillies.
The Nats found out that starting second baseman Danny Espinosa would be out a few days with bone spurs in his right wrist, so Steve Lombardozzi started in his place, collecting three hits including the crucial double in the fifth that broke the game open.
Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick (4-3) had his shortest outing of the season, allowing five runs and eight hits over five innings, walking four. The Nationals pitchers walked none in the win.
Chicago WS 4, Miami 3 (11 innings)
John Danks had a quality start in his season debut and Jeff Keppinger drove in the winning run on a single in the 11th inning and the Chicago White Sox beat the Miami Marlins 4-3 in Chicago Friday night.
Danks allowed three runs and four hits in six innings, striking out five and walking none. This was his first start since undergoing shoulder surgery in August to repair a capsule tear.
Tom Koehler also had a quality start for the Marlins, allowing three runs in six, while reliever Ryan Webb (1-2) took the loss.
Atlanta 5, NY Mets 5 (suspended, 8th)
Play was suspended after Rick Ankiel struck out to end the 8th inning Friday night, leaving a 5-5 tie between the teams to be settled Saturday night.
The Braves had taken a 5-3 lead in the top of the 9th on Evan Gattis’ bases loaded, two run, pinch hit single off Greg Burke. The Mets then rallied in a downpour in the bottom half, assisted by an error by BJ Upton and control issues by pitcher Anthony Varvaro.
The game will resume from the beginning on the 9th inning.
