Showing his disdain for NRA members, NBC sportscaster Bob Costas mocked those who attended the NRA Convention in Houston earlier this month and said today’s defenders of the Second Amendment were not people the country’s founders had in mind when ratifying the Constitution. He made his comments during Friday’s appearance on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight.”

Costas said while “there are legitimate Second Amendment points to be made and some of the points that they make should be part of a reasonable discussion,” many NRA convention attendees have “this extremist absolutist view of the Second Amendment, which they cloak in high-minded talk about freedom and patriotism, they are the true patriots.”

“Forgive me if I doubt that if the founders were reincarnated, that they would say, ‘let’s head to Houston, because that’s where our intellectual and spiritual heirs can be found,'” Costas said, in a mocking tone. “‘Let’s stand shoulder to shoulder — with everybody at the NRA convention, because they’re exactly what we had in mind.'”
