Fresh off a scandal that rocked the university, Rutgers has hired Julie Hermann as their next Athletic Director, making her the third female to currently hold the position at an FCS school. The move puts Rutgers with Cal and North Carolina State as the three athletic programs with females leading their athletic departments.
Hermann comes from one of the most successful programs in the country, Louisville, where she served as Senior Associate Athletic Director in a department that saw a BCS victory in football, a Final Four appearance in women’s basketball, and a championship in men’s basketball.
Reportedly, Hermann was chosen after a 3-3 tie among the six member Executive Athletic Committee that was split between her and Wisconsin assistant AD Sean Frazier. The Board of Governors then swooped in and backed Hermann. She is the first female AD at the school and only the fourth individual to hold the position since 1973.
