Devonte Fields, who took the Big 12 by storm last season as a freshman, has been suspended by TCU head coach Gary Patterson for the first two games of next season for violation of team rules.
En route to winning the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year and being named to the Big 12 First Team, Fields garnered 18.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
The suspension means that the Horned Frogs will be without their elite defender during the opening game against LSU. Though unlikely to emerge victorious with Fields, the loss of the pass rusher puts TCU at a significant disadvantage.
