No Dancing Required: Mark Madsen Gets Head Coaching Gig

Mark Madsen, whose dancing will forever live in infamy, has been hired as the head coach of the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the Lakers D-League affiliate team.

After a career where sheer hustle trumped the fact that his athletic ability was non-existent, the former member of the Lakers and Timberwolves was most recently an assistant coach with his alma mater, Stanford.

The big man never averaged more than 3.6 points per game over his nine seasons, but he did provide some important reserve minutes for the Lakers in their 2001 and 2002 championship runs. However, it was his horrendous dancing at the celebrations for those championships that caught more attention than anything he ever did on the court.

Re-uniting Madsen and the Lakers franchise was made possible when D-Fenders coach Reggie Theus left for the coaching position at Cal State Northridge. The position could be a perfect fit for Madsen as he seeks to prepare players to fill similar roles to what he once held.
