After leading the Philadelphia 76ers to the playoffs the previous two seasons, the disappointing season for the Sixers has led Doug Collins to resign as the coach of the team he played for over the course of his career.
Philadelphia had a rough season, in part, because Andrew Bynum was not able to play after being acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal that also involved Dwight Howard and Andre Iguodala.
Collins previously coached the Bulls, Pistons, and Wizards and has been an NBA commentator. He may take on another role within the Sixers organization. His son, Chris, was recently hired to be the head coach for Northwestern.
