Call it the “Summer of Flacco” as the Ravens quarterback won the Super Bowl, was signed to the richest contract in NFL history, and has now been selected to play the role of legendary passer Johnny Unitas in the upcoming film “Unitas we Stand,” which will begin filming this summer in preparation for its scheduled February 2014 release.
However, not everyone is happy with Flacco. The selection of the Super Bowl champ revealed growing divisions within the Unitas family.
While Unitas’ son Joe feels that Flacco’s style and demeanor is reminiscent of the late legend, other family members feel differently. Grandson J.C., a former signal caller for Villanova, called the choice “embarrassing,” while his father John advocated for Peyton Manning as the choice.
This particular instance is perhaps the most public in a growing dispute between Unitas’ sons John and Joe, with John considering a legal option if Joe continues to try to profit from the Unitas name. Joe had previously attempted to sell t-shirts and was denied by his brother.
